Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to process a submission?
The timing varies based on the submission. We have developed technology that allows us to auto-correct some map reports while others require driven verification by our field team to get them right. In the vast majority of cases, map reports are resolved within 90 days to enable their inclusion in the next release of our database (which is quarterly).
Can I edit a Map Report once it has been submitted?
If you logged in when you submitted your Map Report, you do have the opportunity to supply additional information. Simply log in to My Map Reports and select the specific report to add comments.
How can I add / edit my business as a POI?
Navigate the map to the area you want to add or edit a POI. A tooltip bubble will appear with the options to: “Add a new item here” or “Edit this POI.” Simply right-click and follow the instructions on the screen. Providing more information will facilitate the resolution process.
Why does the tracking number show resolved, but Map Reporter does not show the change?
‘Resolved’ means that we have received your submission successfully and have made the changes to the map within our databases; have found the report to be a duplicate; or have already fixed it. Once the resolved Map Report passes NAVTEQ’s global quality control processes to verify accuracy, it can be included in the next release of the database, which is issued quarterly.
Will I be notified after I have submitted my Map Report request?
If you logged-in or registered for a Map Reporter account when you submitted the request, you will receive an email confirmation of your submission including a tracking number. This enables you to log onto the Map Reporter website at any time and check the status of your report(s). You will also be notified by email when the status of the report has changed.
What do the various Map Report statuses mean?
Opened = The Map Report has been assigned to the appropriate individual within NAVTEQ for research
Researching = A member of the internal Map Reporter team has reviewed the Map Report and initial steps have been taken to start the resolution process.
Resolved = A tentative resolution has been determined based on initial analysis. This has not been verified or implemented at this stage.
Closed = The Map Report has been quality checked and implemented into our database.
Archived = After a period of inactivity, the Map Report is Archived by the system.
What if the map I viewed in submitting my report is different than the map on which I saw the error?
The NAVTEQ map changes everyday to reflect changes in the real world. It's not unusual for your map to become out of date. If the map you are using is onboard an in-vehicle navigation system or a portable navigation device, you can determine if a newer version is available by visiting our web store. Return to the store regularly for updates of our map and the newest content for your device.
Why can I submit only one report per record?
We analyze each report and assign it to one of our geographic analysts who cover your area, or to another mapping expert in our company. By submitting one report per record, it ensures that each report receives the appropriate attention.
What if my reported problem is not related to the map?
NAVTEQ produces navigable map databases and premium content such as NAVTEQ Discover Cities™ or NAVTEQ Camera Alert™. Some issues you encounter may be due to:
  • Software problems involving route calculation or the screen map display
  • Hardware problems
  • Other content not supported by NAVTEQ If you suspect this is the case, please contact your system manufacturer.
When will any map changes be available on a product I can buy?
Once we release the change in our database, it still needs to be incorporated into our customer applications. In some cases, this can be a matter of months. With more complex applications it can be over a year.
Why does my GPS unit map differ from your website?
Once we release the change in our database, it still needs to be incorporated into our customer applications. In some cases, this can be a matter of months. With more complex applications it can be over a year.
How do I apply to become a business partner or log on to my business partner account?
You can apply to become a business partner by clicking on this link. If you have already applied and have been accepted as a business partner, just use the log in username and password boxes at the top and the system will automatically recognize your account as a partner account.
Is there a user guide to help me understand how to use the Map Reporter site?
Yes there is. Please feel free to download it here.
